CrossFit....YES, NO, MAYBE SO???

Some of you like, hate or simply have no idea what CrossFit is. I first was introduced to CrossFit years ago when i decided whilst appearing to physically look fit and strong, i was in fact functionally not as fit and balanced as i first believed. My mobility was awful and my stamina or capability to do anything more than 15-20 reps was a challenge!

Often when talking to people about CrossFit it amazes me how many people will criticise the sport without even trying or learning the fundamentals. In some cases they have even admitted they do not like it because it was too hard or they are scared!

I am far from Mr CrossFit. There are certain aspects i agree with and enjoy and there are some i don't.

The sports pros most definitely stem from its original objective which was to truly find out what fitness means. We are all familiar with our top sporting athletes and Olympic winners....but are they the fittest on the planet?

My answer is no! Just because you can run a marathon does that mean you are elite and extremely fit? NO! It means you have trained for one discipline and do have the desired levels of fitness for the task undertaken.

CrossFit as a sport looked for athletes who could perform strength, gymnastics and endurance events equally in the search for true fitness. The idea is instead of being elite in one area, you should be the full package and regardless what is thrown at you, you should be able to do it!

So many people often participate in CrossFit workouts without even knowing as it covers nearly everything! With my clients i often find these measurable, varied and intense workouts work best. Its a great way of keeping track of your fitness without getting bored.

As far as cons go many people often claim exercises can be rushed and performed incorrectly which can cause injury. This can be true as workouts can be performed as fast as possible to be completed in a time cap.

I personally find also that the majority of workouts can finish within 5-20 minutes and have found some CrossFit athletes struggle to perform in longer events.

To conclude i think that anyone can do CrossFit as there is so many options and scaling choices for workouts. I believe it can if performed smartly mould you into a more complete athlete and human. I do think CrossFit helps your training regimes but i do not suggest it to be the only concept you focus on.

I always think when you leave the gym and you get in your car to leave, you should feel that you gave your all regardless what exercise you did.

Thats what really counts!
