Magnesium, Zinc, Fish Oil. The Benefits on the human body.
We all talk about vitamins and minerals, but often refer the the same old ones such as vitamin c, iron or just consuming your general multi-vitamin capsule.
Here is 3 more ways to enhance your health and well-being through added supplementation if necessary.
Magnesium
Better sleep- The sleep regulating hormone melatonin is disturbed when Magnesium is low. Furthermore, Magnesium brings balance and controls stress hormones. Stress and tension are often reasons why people suffer from insomnia in the first place.
Relaxes the nervous system- Serotonin, which relaxes the nervous system and elevates mood, is dependent on Magnesium.
Bone integrity and strength- Magnesium helps to fix calcium properly. There are actually about eighteen essential nutrients that contribute to bone health; Magnesium is definitely one of the most essential, because it stimulates a particular hormone called calcitonin.
Remineralizes teeth- Magnesium deficiency causes an unhealthy balance of phosphorous and calcium in saliva, which damages teeth.
Alkalizes the body- Magnesium helps return the body’s pH balance. Magnesium reduces lactic acid, which is partly responsible for post-exercise pain (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) or DOMS which you may have been more familiar with or even mentioned without knowing its full meaning.
Hydrates- Magnesium is a necessary electrolyte essential for proper hydration.
Helps to relieve constipation- Magnesium can be used to cleanse the bowels of toxins.
Enzyme function- Enzymes are protein molecules that stimulate every chemical reaction in the body. Magnesium is required to make hundreds of these enzymes work and assists with thousands of others.
Zinc
Improve Athletic Performance and Strength- Adequate zinc directly affects athletic performance and strength development from training because it plays a primary role in hormone production.
Support Male Reproductive Health and Fertility- Zinc is a critical mineral for robust testosterone levels, and the cells of the male prostate require a very high concentration of zinc to work optimally. Low zinc in men impairs testosterone production, puts them at risk for developing prostate cancer, and causes infertility.
Support Female Reproductive Health and Fertility- In women, zinc is involved in the growth process of the oocyte or egg. If women are zinc deficient, the egg won’t mature properly and ovulation will be impeded, causing infertility.
Prevent Cancer and Boost Immune Function- Ananda Prasad, a leading researcher in the field of zinc and health, notes that simply ensuring our zinc levels are adequate can help cure a number of the most severe health problems, especially cancer and poor immune function. This being said it is unfair to claim it cures cancer but various research shows it may prevent it.
Improve Cardiovascular Health- Zinc is vital to maintain the health of cardiovascular cells and the endothelium.
Get The Super Antioxidant Effects of Zinc- Zinc is an excellent antioxidant. The purpose of an antioxidant is to get rid of free radicals that cause damage to cells in the body by bonding with them and neutralizing them. Zinc is particularly good at countering the damaging effect of high iron. Zinc also targets free radicals that cause inflammation throughout the body.
Improve Sleep, Cognition & Energy Levels- Zinc plays an essential role in neurotransmitter function and helps maintain cognition. It is necessary in the metabolism of melatonin, which is a key hormone for healthy sleep.
Fish oil
Cholesterol and blood pressure- Research has shown that taking fish oil can reduce levels of triglycerides by 20 to 50 per cent. High levels of triglycerides raise the risk of heart disease.
Preventing heart disease- Fish oil has been associated with keeping people with healthy hearts free of heart disease.
Treating heart disease- Some research suggests that people who already have heart disease may be able to lower their risk of dying it if they take fish oil.
Rheumatoid arthritis- Fish oil has been found to help people with rheumatoid arthritis get over morning stiffness faster. Some arthritis sufferers have been able to reduce their reliance on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) by taking fish oil daily.
Period pain (dysmenorrhea)- Some women who experience acutely painful periods have reported that taking fish oil alone or in combination with vitamin B12 can reduce the pain.
Attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children- Some research has linked taking fish oil with improved thinking skills and behaviour in 8 to 12 year-old children with ADHD.
We are all individuals and what may work and suit some will also affect others differently. Alot of people react differently with various foods and and will be deficient in different areas so taking this into account all supplementation should be taken responsibly and relevant to the person in need.
For example i have an active job, height 6ft 2 and weigh 16st also training 5-7 times a week. Would my demand be higher than someone who is 5ft 2, weighs 9st who trains 3 times a week with a sedentary job???
Thanks
